Member Spotlight - THE ENTIRE PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP oh yea!!!

It is a huge decision to choose one member to spotlight in the  Weekly Member Spotlight .  I have decided to break with convention and feature an entire group.  The Photography group is one of the nicest places on Active Rain.  It is the kind of group that reminds me of the bar from the series Cheers.  It is the kind of small group where everyone knows your name, everyone is friendly and you may even learn something if you spend enough time there.

I'd like to introduce you to the major players in the Photography group.

Follow this link to learn the basics, sharpen your skills and explore the World of Photography with Photography 101 tutorials written by Active Rain Photography Group Members  Cheryl keeps a list of the best posts at the top of the group. This is a fantastic resource.  I think it is also a great idea for all group moderators.

Some folks here just want to take better shots of their listings. Others are confirmed Shutterbugs. The Photography group chats about equipment, tips and techniques for all types of Photography.

Craig understands how to make homes look their best so they will photography well, show well and sell for the maximum amount of money.  Craig always says, "Stage it, List it, Show it, Sell it".  For purposes of this blog I'd like to add, Photograph it, to his list.

OK now you have met the major players in the Photography group.  I hope you will read what they have to say, and check back to the group home frequently.  You need to check the group home because many of the members tend to be purists when it comes to the Photography group.  Many members use the post to group feature so their posts will only appear in Photography.  You can read more about that here: Cross Posting , Spiders, and Moderators! Oh my!  and Group Management - Part Two .

You may be wondering how I fit into the photography group, well, I'm the one posting Help Me blogs there.  And I can tell you I have learned so much.  Everyone goes out of their way to help the photographically challenged.

I'd like to introduce to next week's Member Spotlight author:

More about me...

What post are most proud of?  I'm still waiting to do a post I'm truly proud of.  I have done many that I have worked hard on, about 99% of them to Localism, but I still feel like I am finding my "blogging voice."  I love working on localism posts because I get to share information about the city I love with consumers.  About 4 years ago I was living in Washington DC with my husband and 1 year old daughter.  We thought about getting out of the city and moving to the Dallas area of Texas.  I had only been to Dallas once or twice before and even though my husband grew up here he'd hadn't lived here for over 10 years.  So our new home search & new community search was 100% internet based!  That experience brought us to Frisco and we couldn't be happier.  It also taught me how great a tool the web can be for home buyers & sellers.  And that if done right, finding a new home on the internet can be done.  Wow! If I had only had Localism back then . . .

What is your favorite part of Active Rain? I love that there is a place to go to get trusted advice and to hear varying opinions.  I think by reading and participating in this community we are growing as professionals and our clients will benefit.  I haven't found this type of place anywhere else.  Certainly not when I was a real estate rookie and my first broker was a big chain.  We had hundreds of agents in that office and not 1 was willing to candidly share experiences.

Who do you admire on Active Rain and why?  There are too many to name, but I do really admire those who just jump in full force. Also those that seem to "thoughtfully" blog & comment daily.  I thought I was great at time management, but now I feel like I'm in a whole new league.

Anything you want the Active Rain community to know about you?
Real Estate is my second career.  I went to grad. school for Political Management, specifically Environmental Management.  I worked for many years in Annapolis, MD for the State Legislature writing, defending and debating bills on clean air & water issues, energy and natural resource policies.  I LOVED that job, but wanted to make a switch after my daughter was born.  People always ask if I miss it.  And I do, but I wouldn't go back.  I LOVE the journey I'm on now.  Helping people buy and sell their homes is rewarding in a way no other "job" could be.

Maureen...

THANK you for compiling this. I know this take an amazing amount of time to research and then BUILD a blog like this.

IT it soooooooo important that Realtors and Stagers GET that pictures are the gateway to sales.

Good photography is NOT an OPTION. It is a necessity. But it is an INVESTMENT that will pay off.

Maureen. You are so talented. But I already knew that didn't I? You have convinced me. I will join the Photograpy group. Heavens knows I need to learn. I thought it was only for people who actually knew what a lense was or which way to hold a camera so your fingers aren't the subject. Thank you for the introductions. Wish I had a giant cookie to offer you. How is this?cookie jar

Craig - I really think that the way to win in this industry is to partner up.  Agent - Stager - Photographer - Show Guy - and Financial Guys.  That is the way to give the clients more than the competition.  Everyone wins, even the homeowner.

Diane - It was a pizza night.

Yvonne - thanks for the cookie - I am going to get a big head.

Everyone - Thanks for your comments! Keep them coming!  (another shameless plug)

Folks,

Lets get serious.  Fun is fun, but Maureen is serious about this feature. I have a cousin named Maureen, such a beautiful name. The Photography Group is close knit, great people, and a lot like "Cheers".  Where is my martini?  I want it now! We have a sense of humor, sometimes mistaken, but never-the-less good fun.  We are an informational resource which is important.  In this changing market and in this day and age of the Internet, if you do not use home stagers and professional photographers, you are history.  The aware and hip real estate agent will walk all over you!

Maureen spent a lot of time and is a good AR bogger and comentator.  Let's give her the credit she deserves.  she is an excellent home stager and you should use her if you are in downstate New York or upper New Jersey.

I used to be in construction management in upper New Jersey.  I could go into my Mafia, ala Soprano stories, but I will leave it for another time.

Thanks Maureen

Well said Mike.  I'm going out tomorrow to take after shots of one of the homes I staged.  My flash is off.  I have not had enough time to really practice but I'm sure the shots will be better than they would have been before I joined the photography group.
